OVERALL

Create a repository of Igorot cultural heritage-related information for education by focusing on the following actions:

  1.  Create a library of published works about Igorot cultural heritage and history.
  2.  Collect stories of the first generations of Igorot-Americans
  3.  Promote public events hosted by Igorot organizations when they align with TUSIS values, documenting them when possible
  4.  Create Partnerships with Institutions that house Igorot Artifacts for collaborative connection
  5. Support efforts that lead to an Igorot-knowledge-related publication or production upon board approval; especially highlighting artwork and projects by those of Igorot descent.
  6. Create experiences that educate on Igorot cultural knowledge.

OBJECTIVES

Make a Digital Directory of Igorot-related Works

  1. The directory aims to curate existing published works online about Igorot heritage and history.
  2. It will be a virtual archive of digital media, sites, and resources related to Igorot culture.
  3. Curated works will be for educational purposes.
  4. Content promoting violent or harmful ideas and material will not be accepted into the archive and will be reported to appropriate host sites.
  5. It will be maintained with the intent to promote the creators/curators as an appreciation for their efforts of creating/curating knowledge of the Igorot.

Collect stories of the first generations of Igorot-Americans

  1. Collect and record stories of Igorot-Americans related to their immigration journey and navigating life in America as a person of this background.
  2. The stories aim to preserve the perspective of what the pioneers from the Igorot culture want future generations to care or understand about the culture
  3. It is overall an exploration of how Igorot Culture was experienced intergenerationally as 1st gen US immigrants, focusing on:
    • how this culture continues 3000 miles away from where it came
    • what parts of it continues, what stopped/why, and
    • what the people who first came to the US want future generations to remember about the culture.

Promote Public Events of the Filipino & Igorot Community

  1. Sharing information about community events for related to and/or hosted by Filipinos/Igorots to promote camraderie and chances for connection
  2. Aim to document the event and details when possible. 
  3. This will foster opportunities to experience modern Igorot culture.

Create Partnerships with Institutions that house Igorot Artifacts

There are museums across the nation that display artifacts of Igorot heritage. We hope to build relationships with these institutions so TUSIS vetted visitors can have free entry to participating museums. This provides a chance for Americans to see a remnant of the heritage without flying to Philippine museums. 

Support Igorot-related Content Creation

  1. Contribute to and/or consult content creation efforts that lead to an Igorot-knowledge-related publication or production which is subject to board approval
  2. Highlight artwork and projects by those of Igorot-descent

Bridging Igorot-knowledge networks

  1. Create an environment where different Igorot organizations, educational institutions, and individuals can connect to develop their understanding of the culture as it exists in their respective areas
  2. Promote the practice of fairly and accurately reporting data or other information in a transparent manner

Honor and Acknowledge Igorot Ancestry

This organization is created by Igorot descendants dedicated to the preservation of the knowledge of the culture as a way to honor our roots in our American lives with hopes the knowledge continues for future Americans and others to refer to. Camraderie and education are  main tenets of this nonprofit. We do not condone individuals or organizations miscontruing the knowledge or abusing the network. We hope to foster a place where anyone can connect with Igorot culture and its' people harmoniously.
